RATHAMBHORE TIGER RESERVE, Rajasthan

Well known for the diurnal activity of its tigers, Ranthambhore National Park is a very special and unusual area where a natural present meets a historical past. Dotted across the landscape are the crumbling ruins of its past glory - lake palaces, cupolas, and old guard posts - all of which reinforce the magical and ethereal quality of this great wilderness.

Ranthambhore is one of the finest places to view tigers in the wild. With an area of 825 sq km encompassing rocky hill crests which descend to open valleys, dotted with water pools and fruit trees, Ranthambhore National Park gets its name from the thousand year old fortress which looms above the forest. It is one of the finest habitats of the sambar deer and the nilgai.

Ranthambhore National Park, set between the Aravalli and the Vindhya ranges, is about 340 km from Delhi.
